Salvation Army: Meal Service for the Homeless

Help the Salvation Army create change and provide hope to your community.

Join us as we provide nutritious, hot meals and valuable human interaction, ensuring that the most vulnerable members of society do not go hungry.

You will receive 2 MD points for participating(1 extra MD point for drivers)

Signing up means that you are committing to helping since we won't be choosing randomly from the list. So please check your calendars and make sure before putting your names down. Incredible Fridays Volunteering

Incredible Fridays is a monthly respite ministry for families that have children with special needs. Parents bring their children, including siblings without disabilities, to First Baptist McKinney for three hours once a month. Parents can use this time to do whatever they want – shop, go on a date, relax. The program is free.

IIncredible Friday Volunteers serve on Friday evenings once a month. Volunteers should arrive at 5:15 pm for dinner and training and plan to serve until 9:00 pm.

 

VNA Hospice Volunteering

The Community Health Clinic of McKinney 

The Community Health Clinic of McKinney currently has openings for fluent Spanish translators. Volunteers will be responsible for providing translation for healthcare providers and patients in and out of the exam rooms, and will have the opportunity to learn about patient care through shadowing the providers. The volunteer position will be recurring and require regular attendance. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here: 

 

Volunteering Events

We have partnered with VNA Hospice to start helping them out with their meals on wheels program. Molding Doctors will come together in groups to deliver meals to seniors in need.  VNA provides geographically compact, efficient routes for volunteers to follow. One person will be the driver and the rest will be the helpers. Drivers will receive extra MD Points for helping out. VNA will not compensate drivers for gas use. at Richardson Spring Valley United Methodist Church

We are offering a new volunteer opportunity to members through Atria Richardson, a retirement home that provides independent living, assisted living and memory care services for elderly living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The volunteer opportunity will be an ongoing, semester-long commitment, with members being awarded MD points based on participation. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to gain service hours and build relationships with elderly patients and residents in a community setting. Digital Sherpa Program

The Digital Sherpa Program aims to help cancer patients (mainly 65 and older) and their families become more tech-savvy. The program’s workshops educate patients and care partners in basic internet and social media skills to help them in their search for information about their illness and support for them and their families.

Trinity River Clean Up 

From the organizers: Join us on Saturday, March 16th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM for a fun volunteer trash cleanup day in Harold Simmons Park! Green is the color of the weekend, but we want to work alongside you to keep the Trinity River green all year round! Meet us at the Felix H. Lozada, Sr. Gateway on the west side of the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge. 

 

This event will award 3 MD points and 2 extra points for drivers. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to volunteer before Spring Break and help out the environment!

Dallas LIFE: Food Service

As you may know, we partner with UTSW to host Hep B clinics. We need members who would be interested in helping us contact people who test positive with appropriate follow-up. We are looking for bilingual volunteers to help us call patients. It will be an excellent opportunity to :

(1) practice talking to real patients and

(2) learn about community health and barriers to healthcare access.

HEP B 

Dallas LIFE invites groups and individuals to help serve dinner each evening. This is a great opportunity to get to serve on the front lines and interact with the residents.

Dress Code: It is preferred that jeans or slacks are worn by volunteers serving in the kitchen. Please no running shorts or leggings/tights as pants. Shirts must have sleeves, an appropriate neckline and cover the midriff. Please wear closed toed shoes (no sandals). We will provide aprons, gloves and hair coverings. Baseball caps may be worn.

MD Points: 2 MD points for volunteering and 2 extra MD points for drivers
